Reducing Microplastics in my Kitchen

With the growing awareness of microplastics being ubiquitous, from our oceans to our bloodstreams, and posing risks by carrying toxins, disrupting ecosystems, and potentially causing DNA damage and other health issues. Be it through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact, concerns regarding long-term health impacts and the difficulty of removing them are escalating. In light of this, I have implemented several modifications in our home.

At the beginning of the year, I informed my husband of my intention to return our kitchen to its fundamental elements, having already discarded all the black plastic cooking utensils in 2024. I was committed to replacing our non-stick cookware and plastic food storage containers in 2025.

If you read my blog, you will know that I have successfully replaced the non-stick cookware with stainless steel pots and pans earlier this year, and I have now completed the transition of the plastic containers to glass containers, thereby adhering to my commitment to reduce microplastics in our kitchen.

Additionally, I reorganized our kitchen cabinets, which has resulted in my husband's temporary confusion regarding the location of kitchen items. It's good to keep him guessing!
