Practicing Self Care in Winter
Winter weather brings with it many skin drying conditions. From the various heat sources to the clothes we wear to keep warm. The fluctuations in heat & cold from the simple task of coming indoors from being outside can be tremendous- it could be as much as a 40 or more degree difference in temperature. The heat source be it in your car, home of workplace takes it toll on drying out your skin and yes, even your hair. Take in consideration of the clothes that you wear in winter- those ones that wick moisture away from your body, yes they do contribute to dry skin, even natural fibers such as cotton (the heavy duty stuff like in denim) and wool can cause skin irritation as they too can wick moisture away from your body. And let’s take a moment to talk about Hydration. Drinking water and staying hydrated is just as important now as it is in summertime. Beverages that contain caffeine and/or alcohol tend to dehydrate the body, so it’s important to have a set water intake for the day - mine is the old adage of 8 glasses of water a day or 64 ounces). Our bodies are composed of approximately 60% water. Drinking water helps to maintain the balance of bodily fluids (and I’m not just talking about your kidneys and urine output) and maintain body temperature.
While no product can stop the drying effects of winter, we can hold them at bay. Starting with your hair and working towards to your toes, I have products that aid you in your battle against skin drying conditions.
