Tariffs and the price of handmade goods
Let's discuss the rising costs of fabric and the value of handmade items.
During my recent visit to Hobby Lobby, I noticed that Kona Cotton fabric prices had increased by $4.00 per yard now making the price $10; however, I found it online for $7.50 per yard, a consistent price point.
Notably, quilters-grade cotton flannel fabric prices have risen significantly since the start of the year, from $11 to $18 per yard.
Tariffs are a contributing factor to these price increases, which also affect sewing machines, embroidery machines, sergers, needles, thread, and other sewing notions.
Let's appreciate the effort and value that goes into handmade gifts, as creators continue to navigate rising costs and find innovative solutions to bring their crafts to life.
