Self Care

I’m one for promoting Self Care - but what does that mean exactly? Self-Care can mean something different to each person.

For the harried parent who has a dozen different things going on at the same time, and then something happens that adds more to their plate, leaving them feeling utterly overwhelmed, sometimes hiring a cleaning team to give their home a thorough deep cleaning is the thing they need to do.

For the busy commuter, sometimes you don’t have time to do it all - go ahead and order groceries online and have them delivered to your home. If it’s a time-saving convenience that allows you to spend more time with your family, do it!

For the overwhelmed college student, give yourself a few hours every day to unplug from all social media. It’ll still be there, but you’d be surprised at how much better you’ll feel when you unplug. People don’t need to be in touch with us 24/7.

For the empty nester or retiree, it can mean downsizing and moving to a small home, being in a house that’s clutter-free and easy to take care of, having a smaller yard that requires less maintenance. I know all about this, as we moved five years ago, downsized, and only have our private courtyard garden to take care of.

Self-Care is more than taking exercise classes, eating right, wearing sunscreen, drinking plenty of water, and having regular checkups with your doctor and dentist. It can mean a salon appointment to have your hair cut, perhaps a facial or a massage. It can mean new underwear; when was the last time you treated yourself to a bra fitting and got yourself some bras that actually fit? It’s about the little things that add to your quality of life.
