The cost of Haircare Products

Many of you know me from my Mermaids and Seashells bath and beauty products business. I especially loved my haircare products. My syndet shampoo bars were fantastic! They were free from sulfates and pats and, plus they just made my hair look and feel fantastic.

Then we were all swept up by the Covid-19 global pandemic and suddenly supply costs for my small business were rising exponentially, not to mention the supply chain shortages. Long story short, I retired from my business. I could no longer afford to buy supplies, I couldn’t buy in the supersized bulk sizes like bigger companies could. I was a small business owner with one employee, myself. Many of my suppliers changed selling strategies and they decided they’d sell bigger quantities than I could buy and use.

Once I used up all of my reserve bath and beauty products, I had to search for products that were similar to my own. I liked how Aveda haircare products made my hair look and feel, my wallet wasn’t as happy though.

Why I switched from Aveda to L’Oréal Ever Pure and OGX Bond Repair haircare products.

The cost of Aveda haircare products kept rising, bottle sizes were shrinking and then they discontinued the entire line I was using. That was it, I was in search of something else. Plus I was done with that $39.00 price tag on an ever shrinking bottle of shampoo (bottles are now 6.5 ounces, they used to be 8.5 ounces). shrinkflation is real.

One of the dermatologists I follow on instagram compared haircare products and L’Oréal Ever Pure shampoo and conditioner, and it was eye opening. The costs alone had me switching brands but also knowing that the Ever Pure line was 100% sulfate, paraban and colorant free sold me immediately! I love that it’s a vegan formula too. We do not need animal fats (Tallow or Tallowate) in our haircare products. Ever. It’s a cheap inferior additive, plant oils are much better options.

Ever Pure shampoo and conditioner is priced at $9.99 for an 8.5 ounce tube, compare that to the $39.00 cost for 6.5 ounces of something that’s comparable- it’s a no brainer which one I’m going to choose.

Like many people out there, I’m a retiree and I want to make the best decision possible for myself and save money in the process.

The OGX Bond Repair haircare products are another option compared to be similar to Aveda products but at a fraction of the price.

I follow a handful of different dermatologists on instagram, their insights into how products work and their benefits plus giving us the skinny on lower cost options has been invaluable. When I can’t get in touch with my own dermatologist, I will seek information from other dermatologists.
