Autumn Cleaning

Much like March & April kick off spring cleaning for most people, September kicks off my autumn cleaning and clearing out mode. It also kicks off another type of creative activity for me.

Less is more.

I’ve started weeding out things that I purchased but never got around to using. I’ve made good use of Facebook Marketplace for selling off quilt kits and other items. I want to encounter others to do the same. It’s okay to admit that your tastes have changed and that you now decorate your home differently than a 5 years ago or even a year ago.

Oh the things I’ve come across in my autumn cleaning- UFOs and PhDs, more than I want to admit to. For those that aren’t “in the know” of this quilting lingo a UFO is an unfinished object and a PhD is a project have done. I came across a quilt project that was literally a project half done. I’m happy to report all of its pieces have been sewn together and now it’s ready to go on a hanger and wait it the queue for longarm quilting service.

While any room may look tidy and well organized, only the owner knows what’s stored in the drawers and cabinets. Perhaps it’s time for you to go through your drawers and cabinets and make sure it’s stuff you want to keep and use or maybe it’s something that you’d rather sell or donate. We don’t have to keep everything we buy or even the gifts we’ve been given. Sometimes things have had a good life with us and it’s time to give them to someone else who will appreciate them.
